Understanding your Problem: the need to determine the nature of the powder to understand the reason behind the formation of this defect. The client reports that the material has no appreciable defect when moulded, but during storage the appearance of a white powder is noticed.

Providing your Solution: Sampling the powder using our DRIFT tool and performing FT-IR spectroscopy on it allowed us to determine its chemical nature.

Comparison of the IR spectrum obtained with the thousands of reference spectra in our database allowed us to identify the chemical nature of the powder, which is the antioxidant additive present in the polymer base. This additive probably migrated to the surface of the material during storage.
